About Charlie

Charlie is a 26-year old baritone from Wiltshire, currently studying under Mark Wildman at the RNCM as a postgraduate.

In 2020 he won the operatic prize in the Mid-Somerset Festival’s Under-21s as a solo singer. He performed in the chorus of the RNCM’s 2022 production of Johann Strauss’s Die Fledermaus, and in the summer of 2023 he sang in the Dorset Opera festival’s chorus for their productions of Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro and Massanet’s Le roi de Lahore. In the same year, he performed the eponymous role in Preston Opera’s production of Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin.

In 2024, Charlie sang with Opera Rara in the chorus of Verdi’s Simon Boccanegra, conducted by Sir Mark Elder. The following year he performed the role of Count Almaviva in Mozart’s Le nozze de Figaro in his home county with Kleine Opera, a small company he co-ran. He had by then completed his undergraduate degree at the RNCM, where he was taught by the late Michael Harper, and took a gap year to travel various parts of the world.

Now a postgraduate at the RNCM, Charlie is an ABRSM scholar and appeared in their Winter Opera, L’amour des trois Oranges by Sergei Prokofiev, as Pantalon, and as the Forester in their Spring Opera, The Cunning Little Vixen, by Leoš Janáček. He returns in September to begin the second year of his Master’s, preparing his next role as the Titular Eugene Onegin in the RNCM’s next Winter Opera. Whilst he is studying, he shall be generously supported by the Dame Patricia Rouledge Foundation and the Maureen Spurgin Award.
